Walking through Sydney, there’s so much to see and do, it can feel overwhelming. The perfect things to do in Sydney vary for each person, but these staples are always a good starting point.
Cruise around the harbour
The views of Sydney Harbour are phenomenal, and the views from the Sydney Harbour are just as amazing. Get yourself to circular quay and jump on a boat! The ferries leave frequently so you can hop onto the one leaving soonest and surprise yourself with where you end up or plan your day around the ferry you want to take.
There are several different ferries available, and most of them are public transport so you’re never out of pocket too much for your trip around the harbour.
Go to the Taronga Zoo
The Taronga Zoo is Australia’s largest zoo and well worth a day trip. The zoo’s 69-acre space is divided into eight zoographic regions and is home to over 4,000 animals of over 350 species. There are several shows on throughout the zoo as well as guided tours if you want to be sure you experience all you can. Of course, you can also just wander freely through the zoo and take it all in at your own pace.
Enjoy good food
Wander through Sydney and you’ll find plenty of restaurants, cafes, pubs, and other eateries. There’s so much food, so many different cuisines, so many styles. Book an experience and make an event of your meal or wander through the city to find the perfect street eats. Try the famous Sydney Messina, enjoy fresh seafood at a restaurant on the harbour, or whatever else takes your fancy.
Go to a local bar
Sydney is full of bars, pubs, and clubs. If you’re inclined to enjoy a drink at a local watering hole, Sydney has some good ones to choose from. Take in a flight of beer at a local beer bar, sample spirits at a specialty bar, and sip wine at a relaxed wine bar. Make a night of it by walking around the city and popping into whichever spots take your fancy or take it easy with a nice drink with a nice view at one of the fancier Sydney establishments. A trip to a local bar isn’t something everyone visiting Sydney can do (especially families), but if you enjoy ending a long day with a drink, sampling a Sydney pub might be one of the perfect things to do in Sydney for you.
Head into a gallery
There are several art galleries in Sydney. Two of the most popular are the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia and the Art Gallery of New South Wales. Admission to both galleries is free so you can walk in whenever suits you. Wander through the exhibits alone, with the family, with friends, or a partner and enjoy some of the culture Sydney has to offer.
There are plenty more things to do in Sydney. You can plan your trip to suit your preferences or wing it and go with the flow. Take in the sights, the flavours, and the experiences however works for you.
