As we do for every main event, last night my bro Javier Burillo and me sat down in his home, cracked a beer and opened up some chips and sat back to enjoy another great night of UFC action. Javier and I used to do this with boxing events and whilst we will still try to catch the big fights in the boxing world, we are very much converts to the UFC and their main events. This happened around 7 or 8 years ago, as we both just fell out of love with boxing which at the time was providing really poor quality. Javier and I were chatting last night about how good the UFC is, and if you aren’t a big fan just now, here is why you will fall in love with it.
Methods of Victory
On the surface you may think that the methods of victory are the same as boxing, with the addition of submission, but there is much more to it than that. In the UFC people can win with kicks, punches, elbows and knees, when it comes to submissions there are arm bars, chokes and leg locks. As you can see there are multiple ways to win, and that makes it super entertaining.
Incentives
Every main event has a number of incentives which can earn the fighters more money, which in turn makes the fights more entertaining for fans. There is a bonus for fight of the night, performance of the night and knockout of the night. Naturally the fighters want that extra cash, so they up their game to get it, which benefits everyone.
Match Ups
One reason why this is a better sport than boxing is because the best fight the best, and there is no need for lengthy negotiations in order to see the biggest fights. This of course is because the UFC are the ones who make the fights, not the fighters. Losing in this sport is not the same as boxing, fighters can have a great career and be considered greats, even if they have a few losses on their record.
Blood
It sounds a touch macabre but something which most of us love abut this sport is the brutality of it, blood, knockouts and exciting action is almost always guaranteed. This is done in a safe way actually and there are far less serious injuries caused in this sport than many others, and in terms of dying, as yet the UFC has not had a single case of it, compared with boxing’s poor record in this regard.
Events
The UFC has a number of events which mean that there is something happening almost every week. There is of course the main events, but there is also UFC fight night and UFC on ESPN which never clash, this means that there is always some action to enjoy when you start watching this sport.
Why not check out the next event and I’m sure that you’ll love it as we do.
