My buddy Marc Leder and I have been proponents of the UFC ever since the early days when fights were, let’s say a little more unsavory than they are right now. This sport has grown far more than either Marc or I could have predicted however and what was once considered as barbaric and gruesome by some, has turned into one of the fastest rising sports in the world. This rate of growth shows absolutely no signs of slowing down any time soon and the way in which the UFC have reacted during the recent pandemic showcases exactly why this is a sport which is only going in one direction.
Keep The Train Rolling
Resilience is something which this sport and this company have been known for through the years and they are very much a company which gets things done, regardless of what is in front of them. The global lockdown has forced a huge number of sports to close down until they are given the nod from the government to restart and the UFC have lead the way in keeping the show going. They have invested heavily in testing, in changing the facilities to keep everyone safe and to do whatever it takes to keep the fights going, even hiring a private island in Abu Dhabi to get it done.
The Fighters
It is easy to forget just how many outstanding fighters the UFC has on its roster and what we have seen across the last 8 weeks has showcased that perfectly. Instead of having a main event every couple of weeks we have had main event after main event, on a weekly basis. This has ensured that all of those amazing fighters which perhaps don’t get the attention which they may deserve, have been far more visible and far more appreciated.
More Fans
Because so many sports fans around the world are missing their favorite events, so many more people have tuned into the UFC than ever before, simply to get some live action to enjoy. This of course has put the UFC in a position where they are going to be able count on more fans than ever before, an amazing achievement. The UFC will deserve their new fans because of the fact that they have taken the bull by the horns and found the way to make sure that these events can move forward.
Knocking on the Door
If there was ever any evidence needed that the UFC was growing and growing it is the fact that many other sports leagues have been in touch with Dana White and is colleagues, to find out how they can follow in their footsteps and reopen. The UFC have gone from being a company that was sneered at by so many, to an industry leader and an influential company having a profound impact on the world of sports, a remarkable achievement.
This is a company which is just going to continue to grow.
