We are seeing more and more examples of homeowners looking to convert dead space into an exciting and livable area of the home, and the loft is one of the most common spaces which we see converted. There are two ways that we generally see this space converted, the first is that people will open up the loft area to create a living space which is a continuation of the house down below. The second option is that the loft is renovated yet it remains hidden away, usually with loft ladders that are built into the loft itself, which then fall down when the hatch is open.
Whilst there are a number of benefits to creating that additional, open space in the loft, the latter option here is a much better choice for homeowners, and here is exactly why.
Hidden Away
There aren’t many places in the home which are true hideouts. You can of course add locks to rooms which means that you can be closed away and nobody will bother you, but that’s not exactly creating a space which is hidden away. No matter what you use the loft space for, there is something which is very enchanting about having this hidden away space, and that is going to bring a great deal more joy than any kind of open design. The loft ladders are important here because the moment that they are visible, that is the moment that the space above is no longer a secret.
Filling Space
Few homeowners have enough space below the loft to place any kind of permanent fixture such as loft ladders or stairs, and that again is why they are better off being hidden. If you can stash these ladders away above the loft hatch then you will be able to maximize the use of the space and therefore create something amazing above, without encroaching on that space down below.
Sense of Adventure
Many people like to convert the loft space in order to create something exciting and adventurous for the kids. If you are intending on doing this then hidden stairs are the ultimate way for you to add that sense of excitement to the space. In such a situation you could even avoid loft ladders altogether and instead add something like a rope ladder which swings down from the hatch once it has been opened. This can be a very exciting option and something which your kids are going to absolutely love.
Lower Cost
If we compare loft ladders which can be stowed away to stronger, permanent ladders then we can see that the former is significantly lower cost than the latter, yet another reason why they make for the smarter choice. It is likely that the loft conversion has already cost you a huge amount of money, and saving wherever possible makes sense, these ladder can help you to do just that.
If you have a loft conversion, stow away loft ladders are going to be your best option.
