Make Yourself A Priority: 5 Reasons Drug Detoxification Is Beneficial

August 4, 2019 by Ian Leave a Comment

Many people struggle with drug addiction but it is possible to stop this addiction and detoxify these drugs from your system. Drug Detoxification means that you eliminate drugs from your body. Drug detoxification involves an intervention that helps abusers with the experience of accurate withdrawal.

The Process

Detoxification is just a form of recovery but to end drug addiction, abusers should continue their recovery process by enrolling in a treatment plan. It must offer great drug abuse treatment programs such that an addicted individual can live a healthy and addiction-free life. This hospital can help you be on your road to recovery in no time. Abusers may find it difficult to do a drug detox because they fear to lose the drug itself and the aftermath of being without the drug. They expect to feel emotional, mental, and physical effects after withdrawal. These symptoms can occur when a person consumes drugs for a long time and then suddenly stops or reduces the usage of it by a lot.

During detoxification, patients are given medication to help deal with the effects of withdrawal. This makes the process tolerable and much safer. Patients are administered medication based upon the substance they have been using, how much they have been taking, and for how long. Detoxification should take place in facilities because the patient can be supervised and offered a support system while going through their withdrawal symptoms. Pain relievers, diet plans, and nutritional supplements can also be offered to patients while they are in a facility.

After Detox

The relapse rate after detox is 65-80% and drug addicts who stayed in treatment were 10 times more likely to stay drug-free. There is a correlation between the time spent in rehab and the rate of relapse. Patients who stay committed to treatment can help defeat the odds of relapse. After detox, a patient must apply everything that he or she has learned during treatment. Avoiding relapse and continuing abstinence is important after completing a detox. Patients should engage in social settings that don’t involve the use of drugs, spend time with people who do not do drugs and avoid situations that can lower mood and cause relapses.

Attending therapy such as a 12-step program has become very popular and can provide healing. You can also detoxify your body by hydrating your body with lots of water to wash away toxins. Changing your diet and juicing are all great ways to rejuvenate your body and help you get vitamins and minerals that your body needs. Exercising and breaking a sweat is a great way to eliminate toxins through your skin. Getting more sleep, getting a massage, decreasing stress are all ways you can flush out your system and prevent relapsing.

Benefits/Reasons To Detox

There are many reasons to detoxify your body from drugs.

1. Healthy Lifestyle

The first reason is that you will be a lot healthier. Drugs are poisons that affect your brain and organs and if you stop taking drugs your body function will be much better. You will also reduce your risk of death, from the first time you take drugs you have a risk of dying. Drugs cause stress to the heart and you can kill yourself by overdosing or going into cardiac arrest.

2. Improved Relationships

If you stop doing drugs you can also preserve your relationships and increase your chances of finding a better job. Relationships can be damaged if you or your partner are doing drugs and eventually that person will not tolerate the drug use anymore. You can lose your family, friends, or relationships and your life will go down in a downward spiral.

3. Developed Self-Esteem

If you suffer from drug addiction you may lose your job because you will lose the ability to perform well on the job. Mistakes may have occurred, more sick days were taken, or projects were not being completed within a specific time period.

4. Optimum Utilisation of Resources

If you detox yourself from drugs you will also save yourself a lot of money. People who are addicted to heroin tend to spend $150-$200 a day to support this habit. This money can instead be used on improving the quality of life.

5. Improved Mental Health

If you quit drugs you will regain the ability to feel authentic emotions again. Long-term drug use can result in feelings of depression. Drugs prevent you from feeling real emotional responses to life events. Meth causes you to feel delusional, while opiates and marijuana cause you to feel mellow even if your life is falling apart. Drugs can cause you to be aggressive or experience personality changes and this can be a burden on your family and friends. Stimulants like cocaine can make you feel paranoid. Your friends and family will love you much more if you are your true self and not taking on different personalities due to drugs.
